OUR STORY

pick a frame, pick a fabric and we do the work!

Our humble beginnings officially started from my garage where I would salvage and restore old upholstered pieces, selling them on sites like ebay and Chairish. I realized there was a real interest in salvaging well built vintage pieces that would fit in modern lifestyles with new fabric and a solid foundation! I hired a Master Upholsterer and the best seamstress I knew (my mom) and opened a 10,000 sqft warehouse building in the Historic West Bottoms Kansas City. The area was booming with vintage revival! The business name back then was Sit On It…a chair gallery

After a few years, it was time to move out of the warehouse district and into a pedestrian oriented shopping village in Old Overland Park, KS. We also changed the business name to Sitzen (haus) Upholstery and Design. It was still technically “Sit On It” but in German, to honor both my family’s and my husband’s heritage. This was when we really became a family operated business with all members lending a hand or popping in for moral support. If you visited us back then and remember my parents and girls - everyone is doing well!

Eventually, all good things must come to an end as our workroom retired and I closed up the retail and workroom locations, going back to my roots to focus on interior design.

RLP interiors is how you can find me now! I bring the same focus on supporting small businesses and skilled trade as well as integrating vintage pieces into my designs wherever possible! I can also be found teaching design professionals about upholstery manufacturing so they can distinguish the nuances in construction to their clients.
